Colachel - 2

The Dec 26, 2004 Tsunami ravaged Colachel and claimed
hundreds of Lives apart from destructing properties.

A memorial hall was built for those who lost their lives in the tragedy.

Colachel - 1

Name : Colachel , Kanyakumari District

Location : Colachel is 40 Km from Kanyakumari & 20 Km from
Nagercoil on the West coast road

Route : Kanyakumari ---> Nagercoil ---> Colachel

Colachel Port is a small, but natural harbour, in the western side
of the district, near the town of Colachel. The Government
has/ had plans to turn it into a major port / container
trans-shipment terminal.

This place was the scene of the battle between the Travancore
forces led by King Marthanda Varma (1729–1758) and the
Dutch East India Company forces led by Admiral
Eustachius De Lannoy on August 10, 1741.

It was the first time in Indian history that an Indian
kingdom
defeated a European naval force.

A stamp* released by the Department of Posts, Government of
India to mark the Tercentenary celebrations of the
9th Battalion of the Madras Regiment (Travancore).

The stamp depicts glorious event in the history of the
9th Battalion of the Madras Regiment (Travancore)
— a capitulation by the commander of the Dutch forces
to the Maharaja of Travancore whose army had routed
the foreign forces in the battle of Colachel in 1741*

Name : Palliyady Pallayapalli Thiruthalam, Kanyakumari District

Location : 5 Km South of Mulagumoodu. Mulagumoodu is 40 Km
from Kanyakumari and situated on the
Kanyakumari - Thiruvananthapuram Highway.

Route : Kanyakumari ---> Nagercoil ---> Thuckalay
---> Mulagumoodu ---> Palliyadi

Said to be old more than 400 years, Palliyadi pallayapalli
Thiruthalam is a Common worship place.It illustrates that
God is above all religions and nations, caste and creed, race .

Situated near a Tamarind tree, this common worship place
has no priests and no idols.

LAMPS reflect our rich tradition and cultural heritage,
and no worship or festivity is complete without lighting a lamp.
A Lamp glows round the clock.

Special worship and Common Feast are conducted on
3rd sunday of march every year in which public from
all communities are participating without any discrimination.
