In 1964, then Indian Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri and
CeylonPrime Minister Sirimavo Bandaranaike signed the
Sirima-Shastri Pact (also known as the Indo-Ceylon
Agreement) under which India agreed to the repatriation of
525,000 Indian Tamils.

Those Indian Tamils mostly plantation workers settled in
Tamilnaduespecially in Nilgiri, Kovai & Kanyakumari
districts.

Kuttriyar (near Kothayar Lower Camp,Kanyakumari district)
is one such settlement and most of the people work in Rubber
Plantations.

Kuttriyar Falls is located inside the forest area and is unknown to
public except a few.

many gods.

The presiding deity is in a lying posture of 22 ft long.

Full figure of the deity cannot be viewed from a single entrance. It can only be viewed in parts from three entrances.

The left hand of the lord is in a hanging position while the "Chin Mudra" is held by the right hand. There is no Brahmma in the naval of the Lord. The Lord is facing west. This is one of the oldest Vaishnava temples in South India.

Velayudhan Chempakaraman Thampi (1765–1809) was the
Dalawa or Prime Minister of the Indian kingdom of Travancore
between 1802 and 1809 during the reign of His Highness
Maharajah Bala Rama Varma Kulasekhara Perumal. He is best
known for being one of the earliest individuals to rebel against
British East India Company's supremacy in India.

After Velu Thampi's death, his ancestral home was razed to
the ground and what remains now was built at a later period.

An Arjuna tree, known as ‘neer marudhu' in Tamil, estimated to be over 500 years old, has been named after Tamil poet Tholkappiar and was dedicated to the State at a function in Nagercoil on July 17, 2010.

According to the District Forest Officer V.Sundararaju ,this one is the first-ever tree, which has been identified outside the forest area in the district.

District Collector Rajendra Ratnoo dedicated it to the people of the State

Girth of the tree is 26 metres

While the bark is used for curing heart and skin diseases besides liver enlargement, the wood is used for making agricultural implements, carts, cots, chairs and dining table

Sanguthurai Beach is about 15 Km From Kanykumari on the west coast.

As the bridge connecting Melamanakudi & Kelamanakudi was
washed away in the tsunami 2004, Heavy vehicles from
kanyakumari has to cover extra distance before reaching the
Sanguthurai beach
